Manchester United appeal against Rooney's two-match ban

Manchester United have appealed against the two-match ban imposed by the FA on Wayne Rooney for using abusive language. The United striker has accepted the charge but not the ban and the appeal will now be heard on Wednesday.

Rooney was punished after he swore into a television camera after scoring during his hat-trick performance against West Ham last weekend.

If the appeal fails, Rooney's suspension - which already covers Saturday's Premier League match with Fulham and the FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City - could even be extended.
