Horse racing-Frankel blazes to 2,000 Guineas glory for Cecil

LONDON, April 30 (Reuters) - Unbeaten Frankel gave Henry Cecil the third English 2,000 Guineas success of his long training career with a sensational victory at Newmarket on Saturday. The three-year-old colt, now unbeaten in six starts, turned the first Classic of
the English flat racing season into a procession with a six-length victory.
The 1-2 favourite blazed away from the front under Irish jockey Tom Queally and soon had his 12 rivals at full stretch in the one-mile contest, finishing clear of Dubawi Gold (33-1) and Native Khan (16-1).
"He is a very, very good horse. He won the race and wondered where everyone else was. He was waiting for them," said Cecil, celebrating the 25th Classic victory of a training career that began in 1969.
Cecil, 68, has had to wait 35 years for his third 2,000 Guineas win. He won the race in 1975 with Bolkonski and a year later with Wollow. Cecil has also won the English Derby four times but doubts over Frankel's stamina mean the colt is uncertain to line up at Epsom in early June.
