Glory girls cherish makeshift silverware

Perth Glory's women's side have the chance to win their second piece of silverware this Sunday - and this time they won't have to buy it themselves.
Perth hasn't tasted title success in a national soccer competition
since the Glory men's team won the NSL Championship in 2003/04.
That 10-year silverware drought ended last month when Glory's W-League team wrapped up the league premiership with a thumping 5-0 win over Western Sydney.
It was a perfect occasion except for one important detail - FFA doesn't provide a trophy to the premiership winners in the women's game.
Glory coach Jamie Harnwell was too superstitious to organise one himself for fear it could jinx their Championship bid.
So instead, an employee from Football West spent around $100 on a makeshift Premiers' Plate for the girls to parade on the day.
"There was just a simple engraving on it, but it was a nice touch," Harnwell said.
"If you had won it and there was no physical thing, it would have taken a bit of a gloss off it.
"Those photos we had that day of the girls holding it were fantastic, and they are among the most well liked and shared photos of the W-League season."
As proud as Harnwell is of the achievement, he knows the ultimate prize will be on offer this Sunday when Glory hosts Canberra United in the Championship decider at nib Stadium.
Glory progressed through to the grand final with a convincing 3-0 win over Sydney FC last week, while Canberra qualified with a thrilling penalty shootout triumph over Melbourne Victory.
Perth will start as hot favourites in the grand final after producing a season that saw them set new records for most goals scored (39), most points accumulated (30) and best start to the season (six straight wins).
But Canberra gained some invaluable belief a fortnight ago when they beat Perth 2-1.
Harnwell would love nothing more than to see his girls lift the trophy in front of their home fans on Sunday.
"But a trophy that's not bought by ourselves would be good," Harnwell said with a chuckle.
