Napoli lose touch from leaders AC Milan

Napoli crashed 2-1 against guests Udinese on Sunday and slipped six points behind leaders AC Milan with five games left in the Italian Serie A.Second-half strikes from Swiss Gokhan Inler and Argentine German Denis stopped the chase of Napoli as the Devils on
Saturday trounced struggling guests Sampdoria 3-0 with goals from Clarence Seedorf, Antonio Cassano and Robinho.

Udinese missed Antonio Di Natale, the league top scorer on 26 goals, and the fast Alexis Sanchez upfront, but still displayed good tactics and ran minor risks at the San Paolo stadium.

Ex-Napoli forward Denis had an early chance with a nasty drive that met the prodigious save from Morgan De Sanctis.

Edinson Cavani twice fired wide by the left post as he tried to draw level on goals with Di Natale, but Napoli only created another first-half chance when Samir Handanovic bravely deflected a flick from Ezequiel Lavezzi.

An impressive drive from the distance from Inler put Udinese one up 10 minutes after the break and Denis secured the win six minutes later with a flawless chest control and a smashing drive into the far corner.

Napoli's reaction produced a bar-shaking header from Christian Maggio before Uruguayan Cavani had a spot kick saved and substitute Giuseppe Mascara flicked home a late consolation goal.

The Udine guests had Maurizio Domizzi sent off for protesting after a foul that was sanctioned with the penalty.

Lazio won 4-1 away to lowly Catania earlier Sunday to move within three points of title holders Inter Milan in the race to secure direct access to the next Champions League.

Inter stayed third after crashing 1-0 at minnows Parma on Saturday and slipped eight points from leaders Milan.

Lazio currently lie in fourth position, which allows participation to the elite continental tournament through a qualification round.

In other Sunday action, Juventus drew 0-0 at Fiorentina and did not profit from a defeat suffered Saturday by Roma, who lost 3-2 against Palermo to retain sixth place and the last available Europa League berth.

In the lower reaches, Lecce rallied from two goals down and salvaged a vital 3-3 draw with Cagliari, Brescia lost 3-0 at Genoa and stayed in the three-team drop zone with bottom side Bari, who lost 1-0 at still troubled Cesena.

Sampdoria are now third from last and late Saturday were attacked in their motor coach by angry fans as they returned to Genoa from their drubbing at Milan.

Chievo are virtually safe from trouble thakns to a 2-0 defeat of Bologna, secured despite the first-half dismissal of Luca Rigoni.
