to remain close to the lower reaches of the Italian Serie A.
After two wins and two draws, Empoli failed to prevail despite
creating good chances at the rainy Carlo Castellani stadium, where Torino's Swedish defender Pontus Jansson was sent off with a second booking on 90 minutes.
The Tuscany side moved onto 16 points from 15 games and sit two behind Inter Milan, who play later at struggling Chievo. Torino have 14 points, one more than Chievo, and sit two clear of the drop zone alongside Atalanta.
Leaders Juventus drew 1-1 on Sunday at home to Sampdoria for a point tally of 36 and saw Roma close within one point as they won 1-0 at Genoa.
