Captain Moritz Fuerste said: "We started very strong, we fought 100 per cent until the end. I'm so proud on this young team, scoring two sensational goals at the beginning."

Australia's Eddie Ockenden said it was a game Australia could have won on chances.

"It was a really tough game," he said.

"We could have put a couple of goals away at the end and we could have easily scored more goals. We fought much better in second half and could have also taken the win."

Pakistan's victory over India put them into their first final since 1998 when they went down 3-1 to the Netherlands on home soil in Lahore. The last of Pakistan's three tournament titles was in 1994.

India took the lead from a penalty corner through Gurjinder Singh in the 12th minute before Muhammed Arsalan Qadir levelled five minutes later.

There was no coming back though when Qadir chipped over the keeper in the 59th minute.

And it was Peillat who made the difference when he flicked home a 48th-minute penalty corner for the winner.
