LONDON (AFP) - Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp reiterated on Thursday that Luka Modric was not for sale amid reports that the star playmaker had handed in a written transfer request.
Modric is keen to quit Spurs for London rivals Chelsea who have had a £22 million offer for the 25-year-old rebuffed and who have reportedly returned with a £27 million offer this week.
Modric, on record as saying Chelsea would represent a "dream" move with the Blues in next season's Champions League, has publically criticised Spurs' chairman Daniel Levy.
The player has accused Levy of "twisting the facts" concerning the details of talks between the pair about his future last week.
Despite reports in The Guardian newspaper that Modric had now handed in a formal transfer request to try and force a move away from White Hart Lane Redknapp insisted the club's stance had not shifted.
Redknapp told BBC Sport: "We know he wants to leave and whether he writes it down on a piece of paper doesn't really make any difference to our stance.
"He's a great player and we don't want to lose him."
Despite the tug-of-war Modric is joining his teammates on a pre-season tour in South Africa.
