CHICAGO (AP)—Pinch-hitter Greg Dobbs(notes) delivered a two-run double against closer Carlos Marmol(notes) walked three straight hitters, and Florida scored six runs in the ninth inning to rally for a 6-3 victory over Chicago on Thursday night, extended its season-high winning streak to six games.
The Marlins trailed 2-0 before sending 11 batters to the plate in their final at-bat.
Matt Garza(notes) threw seven scoreless innings for Chicago and Sean Marshall(notes) worked the eighth, but Marmol (2-3) picked up his seventh blown save.
He walked Mike Stanton(notes), Mike Cameron(notes) and John Buck(notes), throwing just one strike in the process, and Dobbs followed with his double that along with a throwing error gave Florida a 3-2 lead. Marmol walked Emilio Bonifacio(notes). Reliever Kerry Wood(notes) allowed a sacrifice fly and run-scoring single. Reliever James Russell(notes) gave up an RBI single to make it 6-2.
Edward Mujica(notes) (7-2) recorded the final out in the eighth.
Rockies 12, Brewers 3
DENVER (AP)—Ryan Spilborghs(notes) had a home run among four hits and Ubaldo Jimenez(notes) pitched six solid innings for Colorado.
Spilborghs finished a triple shy of the cycle while registering his first four-hit games in more than two seasons. Ty Wigginton(notes) and Ian Stewart(notes) had three hits each for the Rockies, who had a season-high 20 hits.
Jimenez (5-8) allowed two runs and six hits, walked two and struck out four to earn just his second win at home in 2011. Jimenez has won four of his last six starts after beginning the season 1-7.
Ryan Braun(notes) returned to the Milwaukee lineup with two hits to extend his hitting streak to 23 games. Braun missed the last eight games before the All-Star break with a left calf strain.
Corey Hart(notes) hit his 11th homer for Milwaukee and Yovani Gallardo(notes) (10-6) allowed six runs and a season-high 11 hits in four innings.
Giants 6, Padres 2, 12 innings
SAN DIEGO (AP)—Aubrey Huff(notes) hit a tying homer off All-Star closer Heath Bell(notes) leading off the ninth inning to tie it and Mike Fontenot(notes) brought in the go-ahead run with a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the 12th for San Francisco.
The bullpen collapse extended the Padres’ losing streak to six games, tying their season high.
Huff muscled an 0-2 pitch several rows into the stands down the right-field line for his ninth homer.
Bell had gone 99 games and 102 innings—the longest stretch in franchise history—since giving up his last homer, to San Francisco’s Juan Uribe(notes) on April 19, 2010.
It was Bell’s second blown in 28 opportunities.
Giants All-Star closer Brian Wilson(notes) came on with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 12th for his 27th save.
Cody Ross(notes) started the winning rally in the 12th with a leadoff walk against Luke Gregerson(notes) (2-3).
Santiago Casillas (2-1) threw two perfect innings for the win.
