Promoted Betis reward coach Mel with three-year contract

MADRID, May 27 (Reuters) - Newly-promoted Real Betis have rewarded coach Pepe Mel with a three-year contract, the Spanish club said on Friday.

“I’m staying with the team I wanted to be with,” the 48-year-old, in his first season at Betis, told reporters
“They have given me the chance to head up a project for a minimum of three years. The contract… is dependent on Betis remaining in the Primera division.”
Betis, who have one La Liga title and two King’s Cup wins to their name, top the second division by three points from promoted Rayo Vallecano, with two rounds of matches left to play.
