gainst Uruguay, the team doctor said on Wednesday.
Fernandez limped out of Chile’s 2-1 victory over Mexico but team doctor Luis Maya said his leg injury did not appear to be too serious.
“The scan we did today is fairly satisfactory,” Maya told a news conference. “There’s no bruising, no torn muscle and nothing is broken, so it’s pretty positive.”
However, he said the medical team would have to wait and see how Fernandez responds to treatment in the next 48 hours.
If the midfielder cannot face Uruguay in the Group C clash in Mendoza on Friday, his natural replacement would be Jorge Valdivia, although he too is carrying an injury.
