Peru beat Senegal 1-0 in a match before Copa America

LIMA, June 29th 2011 (AFP) – The Peruvian team won on Tuesday night against Senegal, 1-0. The game ended with nine players in a race to score the first goal of the match and served as preparation for Copa America.
The only goal was scored by forward, Paolo Guerrero in the last minute of the game, with a violent kick from the edge, after receiving a precise pass from midfielder, Michael Guevara.
The game was played in Alejandro Villanueva’s Stadium, with 15,000 people in attendance to watch the last match before Peru’s official first game in the Copa America. The match raised questions about the worth of the Peruvian team.
Peru created more scoring opportunities than their rivals Senegal, but the team was unable to take advantage of these opportunities and failed to score until the last minute. This shows a skills gap on the team because their best players Claudio Pizarro and Jefferson Farfán are unable to play in the Copa America due to injuries. The team devoted much of their time to defence.
