BALTIMORE, May 21 (Reuters) - Brief profile of the 2011 Preakness Stakes winner Shackleford.
* Bred in Kentucky, his sire is Forestry while his dam is Oatsee. Shackleford's breeders, Mike Lauffer and Bill Cubbedge, tried to sell the horse as a yearling in 2009 but kept him after he failed to meet his reserve price of $275,000.

* His jockey, Jesus Castanon, 37, was born in Mexico and had never won a Triple Crown, comprising the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes, before Saturday.
* His trainer, Dale Romans, 44, was born in Kentucky and had also never won a Triple Crown race before Saturday. His biggest win as a trainer was the 2005 Dubai World Cup with Roses in May.
* Before winning the Preakness, Shackleford had raced six times for two wins and a second. He finished fourth at the Kentucky Derby after leading for most of the race.
* The connections earned around $660,000 for the win plus a replica of the Woodlawn Vase trophy.
