Keeper versus keeper as Lehmann sues Wiese

Former Germany international Jens Lehmann is suing fellow goalkeeper Tim Wiese for damages in a legal dispute which will go to court on Thursday.Lehmann, who was re-signed by Arsenal last month, is claiming damages of 20,000 euros (28,500 dollars) from Werder Bremen keeper Wiese for "a serious breach of his personal rights," the Munich district court said Monday.

Wiese, 29, a member of Germany's squad at the 2010 World Cup, has filed for the suit to be dismissed.

The dispute follows comments by Lehmann, 41, appearing as a German television pundit, who criticised Wiese for a goal conceded in a Champions League match between Bremen and Tottenham Hotspur on September 14.

Lehmann, who has come out of retirement to help his former club Arsenal, said Wiese should have "been braver" and come out of goal rather than stay on his line.

Wiese in response was quoted by Bild newspaper as saying "Lehmann should join the Muppet show."

He added: "The man belongs on the couch. Perhaps that will help him. Commit him - preferably to a closed institution."

The court said neither of the players needed to appear at the civil case proceedings.
