Tigers to start season without injured Guillen, Zumaya

MIAMI (Reuters) - Detroit Tigers second baseman Carlos Guillen and relief pitcher Joel Zumaya will begin Major League Baseball's season on the disabled list because of injuries, the team said Tuesday.
Both players will remain at the Tigers' spring training complex in Florida for
rehabilitation, Tigers manager Jim Leyland said in a report posted on the team's website (detroit.tigers.mlb.com/).
Guillen, 35, is recovering from knee surgery and Zumaya, 26, has been advised to rest a sore right elbow that he had surgery on last year.
Guillen had been expected to Detroit's starting second baseman. The oft-injured Zumaya appeared in 31 games for the Tigers last year, compiling a 2-1 record with one save.
The Tigers open their regular season on March 31.
