Dutt, 46, would succeed Jupp Heynckes whose contract with Leverkusen expires at the end of the season. German media reports have linked Heynckes with a move to Bayer Munich.
There was no immediate confirmation from either club.
Leverkusen chief executive Wolfgang Holzhaeuser told dpa: "There has definitely been no decision."
Talks with Heynckes are scheduled for Monday.
Second-placed Leverkusen, 10 points behind Borussia Dortmund, are playing Schalke 04 later in the day.
