World Cup races moved within Austria due to lack of snow

VIENNA (AP) -- The International Ski Federation (FIS) has canceled women's World Cup races in Semmering, Austria, next week because of a lack of snow.

Mild temperatures have prevented organizers from producing sufficient artificial snow to cover the Zauberberg course at the resort, where a giant slalom was scheduled for Sunday, followed by a night slalom the next day.
FIS women's race director for technical events, Markus Mayr, says ''it's been impossible to create a suitable course due to the weather conditions.''
The races were not immediately rescheduled.
A city event in Munich on New Year's Day had been called off for the same reason earlier this week, and the women's World Cup now continues with a slalom in Zagreb, Croatia, on Jan. 4.
