Leeds appoints Neil Warnock as manager

LEEDS, England (AP)—Leeds United has appointed Neil Warnock as manager, hoping the former Queens Park Rangers boss can revive its chances of a Premier League return.

Warnock sealed a quick return to management on Saturday following his sacking last month by topflight club QPR, which he led to promotion last season.
Leeds fired Simon Grayson on Feb. 1 after three years in charge. Grayson had taken Leeds back into the second-tier Championship in 2010 but hopes of a return to the Premier League for the first time since it was relegated in 2004 were fading.
Warnock, who has a contract until 2013, takes over with the team 11th, 11 points away from the automatic promotion places and six off the playoffs.
