Randolph carries Grizzlies past Spurs in triple overtime thriller

Los Angeles (dpa) - Zach Randolph scored all of his team's six points in the third overtime Wednesday, carrying the visiting Memphis Grizzlies to a thrilling 117-116 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

"They're champions so this is what you get," said Randolph, who finished with 21 points and 21 rebounds.

"They kept making runs and we kept battling. It was one of those
win-in-the-mud games - fight, fight, fight."

Spaniard Marc Gasol scored 26 points, Vince Carter drained five triples en route to a season-high 18 points while Mike Conley contributed 14 with 10 assists as Memphis (21-4) won its sixth in a row.

Danny Green hit seven from behind the arc en route to 25 points, Tim Duncan netted 23 with 16 rebounds, while Argentine Manu Ginobili scored 21 to pace the Spurs (17-9) playing without starters Tony Parker (hamstring) and Kawhi Leonard (hand).

"It was great all around. There were some good shots made and some big shots missed," said Duncan.

"We put ourselves in a tough position to start the game because we were down so much. We really fought back into it though and gave it all we had, but we came up short."

The Spurs battled back from an early 23-point deficit and appeared to have the game won. But Gasol banked in a long 3-pointer to beat the buzzer and force the first overtime tied at 102-102.

Duncan sent the game into a second extra session at 111-111 after his desperation high-arcing straight-away jumper bounced through just before time expired.

Randolph took over in the third five-minute period with all three Grizzlies baskets, including a jumper from the right wing for the final 117-116 score with 58 seconds remaining.

That proved to be the difference as Ginobili's three-pointer on the final shot of the game missed, and the Grizzlies earned just their third win in the last 18 meetings against the reigning NBA Champs.
