SAO PAULO (AP)—Authorities gathered hundreds of police officers, elite squads and bomb-sniffing dogs at the Sambadrome in the jungle city of Manaus to conduct the city’s first public safety test ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
Organizers said Wednesday’s drills were key to help the city prepare and plan for public security threats during the monthlong tournament in two years.
City officials said they were satisfied with the results of the tests at the venue for the city’s traditional Carnival celebrations, and that the “training went as planned.”
Manaus will host four World Cup matches, all in the group stage.
