Gyan takes indefinite break from playing for Ghana

ACCRA, Ghana (AP)—The Ghana Football Association says it is urging Asamoah Gyan to change his mind after the striker decided to take an indefinite break from international football following abuse from fans.

The GFA says Sunderland striker Gyan, who is currently on loan at United Arab Emirates-based team Al Ain, is “frustrated over the verbal abuse he has received since playing for the country at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.”
Gyan had a penalty saved in the semifinal against Zambia earlier this month, which Ghana lost 1-0.
He also missed a penalty in the World Cup quarterfinal loss to Uruguay at the 2010 World Cup.
