West Brom concedes bizarre goal in friendly loss

SANTA CLARA, California (AP)—West Bromwich Albion conceded a bizarre goal in losing 2-1 to the San Jose Earthquakes in a friendly on Tuesday.
San Jose goalkeeper David Bingham scored from more than 90 yards out, embarrassing his oppositite number Boaz Myhill in the West Brom goal.
The 21-year-old Bingham collected a ball in the area and sent a long goalkick downfield. It bounced over the head of Myhill and took another bounce before nestling in the net.
Myhill—taking the gloves for West Brom after the departure of Scott Carson to Turkey in the offseason—was staring directly into a setting sun at Buck Shaw Stadium without the benefit of a cap.
The freak goal came in just the third minute of the game. Khari Stephenson made it 2-0 to San Jose just before halftime before Jerome Thomas pulled a goal back for Albion in the 53rd.
