MADRID (AFP) - Argentine frontman Pablo Piatti has joined Valencia from Almeria on a five year contract subject to a medical, the La Liga outfit announced on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old began his career at Estudiantes de La Plata in his homeland, before moving to Spain when Almeria paid a club record fee of around eight million euros to sign him in 2008.
The pint-sized player has scored a total of 32 goals in 145 top-flight appearances over the course of his short career to date.
However, his contribution was not enough to save Almeria from relegation at the end of last season, as the Andalucian club finished bottom of La Liga.
"He is a young lad with a great future ahead of him, and yet he already has significant experience of top level football," said the Valencia president Manuel Llorente on the club website.
"He also comes from Cordoba, the same province as Valencia greats such as Mario Kempes, Claudio Lopez and Pablo Aimar. Let's hope that's a good sign."
Piatti will be presented to the Valencia fans on Friday, but one man who could be on his way out of the Mestalla in the near future is Juan Mata, who is a known target for at least one English club.
