Report: FIFA picks Corinthians stadium for 2014 World Cup opener

Sao Paulo (dpa) - The new Corinthians stadium at Itaquera, in Sao Paulo, is to host the opening match of the 2014 World Cup, Brazilian media reported Wednesday.

According to the daily O Estado de Sao Paulo, football governing body FIFA has notified both Corinthians and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) that they accept the plan.

The new stadium, called Itaquerao, is to be built by the construction giant Odebrecht at a cost of 448.7 million dollars.
