Police detain more suspects in match-fixing probe

ANKARA, Turkey (AP)—Turkish police have detained more suspects, including two senior Besiktas officials, in the country’s expanding match-fixing probe.
The police detained Besiktas official Serdar Adali and coach Tayfur Havutcu along with two Istanbul Buyuksehir Belediyesi players Tuesday. Trabzonspor deputy president Nevzat Sakar also faces detention, but has been hospitalized after developing heart problems.
Prosecutors have pressed charges against dozens of suspects, including the president of league champion Fenerbahce, over allegations of cheating and bribery involving 19 games.
The Turkish Football Federation has postponed action against Fenerbahce and runner-up Trabzonspor, allowing them to compete in the Champions League, until after the prosecution files its indictments.
