Edwards leads Windies fightback

MIAMI, July 9 (Reuters) - Kirk Edwards completed an unbeaten half-century on his test debut to lead a West Indian fightback on the fourth day of the third and final test against India on Saturday.

Edwards was 62 not out when tea was taken with West Indies on 116 for three in their second innings, still 27 runs behind the tourists.
Edwards and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, West Indies’ most capped player, put on a 76 partnership after India, who lead the series 1-0, reduced the home side to 40-3.
But India’s hopes of swiftly running through the Caribbean side’s middle order were halted by Edwards’ determined display.
The tourists, who earlier were dismissed for 347 with Fidel Edwards ending with five wickets, made a bright start picking up two wickets before lunch.
Kieran Powell edged Ishant Sharma to Suresh Raina at third slip and then fellow opener Adrian Barath also played at a ball he could have left alone, diverting a Praveen Kumar delivery to Virat Kohli at fourth slip.
Then Harbhajan Singh snapped up Darren Bravo for 14, caught by Kumar at mid-off as he tried to drive.
While Kirk Edwards showed a nice range of shots, Chanderpaul was in defensive mode, making 25 off 96 balls without a single boundary.
