Egypt postpone top league match after Cairo clashes

CAIRO, June 29 (Reuters) - Egypt’s football federation has postponed Wednesday’s top-flight match between Al Ahly and Zamalek following clashes in central Cairo between hundreds of stone-throwing youths and police.

The head of the federation, Samir Zaher, told Reuters that security forces requested the postponement of the game involving two of the country’s most popular teams.
“A new date will be decided on Saturday,” Zaher said.
Police in the capital’s Tahrir Square fired tear gas overnight to disperse the crowd who had gathered to demand swifter trials of officials of former President Hosni Mubarak.
The clashes left more than 40 injured.
