Dos Santos leads Mexico, Canada draw with Ecuador

BUENOS AIRES, June 1 (Reuters) - Giovanni dos Santos struck twice in eight minutes as Mexico beat New Zealand 3-0 in Pasadena in one of three CONCACAF Gold Cup warm-up friendlies on Wednesday.
The Mexicans, preparing to defend their title in the tournament in the United States starting on Sunday, went in front when Dos Santos scored from the rebound after goalkeeper Glen Ross parried a shot from Carlos Salcido in the 22nd minute.

The dynamic attacking midfielder scored again on the half hour when he took a pass from Gerardo Torrado and rounded a defender and Ross.
Striker Aldo de Nigris scored the third two minutes before halftime from Andres Guardado’s cross from the left.
In Toronto, Canada drew 2-2 with Ecuador, who are warming up for the Copa America in Argentina next month.
The Canadians, also preparing for the Gold Cup, opened the scoring against the run of play with a shot from a narrow angle by Terry Dunfield after 23 minutes.
The home side then dominated the rest of the first half but Ecuador’s Colombian coach Reinaldo Rueda tipped the balance back with some changes at halftime.
The experienced Edison Mendez gave the midfield more width and striker Christian Benitez headed the equaliser just after the hour.
Two minutes later, Ecuador went ahead when midfielder Michael Arroyo scored with a shot from outside the penalty area.
However, a lack of concentration in the Ecuador defence allowed Tosaint Ricketts to snatch a late equaliser for the home side.
Elsewhere, Guatemala lost 2-0 at home to Venezuela in Guatemala City in their last warm-up for the Gold Cup.
“I know what I want and what I have, we’re Guatemala and we’re trying to build the ideal team,” the Central Americans’ Paraguayan coach Ever Almeida was quoted as saying to the local website PrensaLibre.com.
The Venezuelans, who scored goals in each half through Nicolas Fedor and Grendy Perozo, continue their preparations for the Copa America with a friendly at home to world champions Spain in Puerto La Cruz on Tuesday.
