May 8 (Reuters) - Team by team analysis of Sunday's Turkish Formula One Grand Prix (listed in championship order):
RED BULL (Sebastian Vettel 1, Mark Webber 2)
Vettel's third win from four races, sixth in eight. He had started on pole for the fifth race in a row. Red Bull's first win in Turkey, and first one-two since Brazil in November. The
win made up for the collision between their drivers in Turkey last year that denied them a one-two. Both drivers did four pitstops.
-
MCLAREN (Lewis Hamilton 4, Jenson Button 6)
Hamilton started fourth but lost ground at turn three when trying to go past Webber, dropping behind Alonso and Button. He fought hard with Button but the front wing setting was wrong and he struggled with rear tyre wear. He switched to a four stop strategy, but lost time when a pitstop problem with the right front wheelnuts caused a delay. Button stayed on three stops but felt the team should have kept him out longer to shorten the final stint on harder tyres.
-
FERRARI (Fernando Alonso 3, Felipe Massa 11) Alonso secured Ferrari's first podium finish of the season, fighting with Webber for second place after starting fifth. He pitted 11 laps from the finish and lost out to the Australian because the Red Bull driver had the benefit of a new set of tyres while he did not. Massa chalked up Ferrari's first no-score of the year after pitstop problems.
-
RENAULT (Nick Heidfeld 7, Vitaly Petrov 8)
Both drivers adopted a four stop strategy and are on equal points in the championship. Petrov and Schumacher collided early in the race, with the Russian blaming the German. He overtook Buemi near the endfor eighth. Petrov and Heidfeld also had a coming together, fortunately without consequence.
-
MERCEDES (Nico Rosberg 5, Michael Schumacher 12) Rosberg started third, passed Webber for second on the opening lap but suffered high tyre degradation in the early stages. Schumacher was seventh when he collided with Petrov (saying it was 'mostly my mistake'), damaging the front wing and forcing a stop. Both did four pitstops, with Schumacher using the same soft tyres at the end that he had started on.
-
SAUBER (Kamui Kobayashi 10, Sergio Perez 14) Kobayashi started at the back of the grid after failing to set a time in qualifying due to a technical failure. He also suffered a puncture in the race but made up ground with his usual eagerness to overtake. Perez had to make an early pitstop after hitting Maldonado's Williams on the first lap and breaking the front wing, rejoining at the back of the pack.
-
TORO ROSSO (Sebastien Buemi 9, Jaime Alguersuari 16) Buemi impressed from 16th on the grid but lost two places in the last two laps due to vibrations from the front tyres. He made three stops. Alguersuari suffered heavy oversteer in the final stint due to degrading rear tyres and made four stops.
-
FORCE INDIA (Adrian Sutil 13, Paul di Resta retired)
Di Resta failed to finish a race for the first time this season. The team told him to stop after identifying a problem as he was leaving the pits after his fourth and final stop. Sutil battled with Perez in the closing laps.
-
TEAM LOTUS (Jarno Trulli 18, Heikki Kovalainen 19) Both did three stops. Trulli gained a place from where he started, Kovalainen lost one and suffered a hydraulic leak.
-
WILLIAMS (Rubens Barrichello 15, Pastor Maldonado 17) Still no points for the former champions after four races, their worst ever start to a season. The team had some problems with cooling for the KERS systems but were also just not fast enough. Ironically, Maldonado also collected a late drive-through penalty for going too fast in the pit lane.
-
VIRGIN RACING (Jerome d'Ambrosio 20, Timo Glock non starter) Glock did not start after a problem with fifth gear on the way to the grid. The team tried a gearbox change to try and start from the pitlane but it was not to be. D'Ambrosio had a lonely race on a two stop strategy.
-
HRT (Narain Karthikeyan 21, Vitantonio Liuzzi 22) The team said their wheel gun did not work properly on Liuzzi's car and a wheel nut was lost, meaning the Italian had to be called in again. HRT are promising a big update to the car for the next race in Barcelona.
