Randers and Esbjerg relegated in Denmark

STOCKHOLM, May 29 (Reuters) -The final-day drama in Denmark’s Superligaen was all at the bottom of the table as already-relegated Esbjerg scored a late equaliser against Randers and condemned them to the drop as well.

There were joyous scenes at the Parken Stadium on Sunday as champions FC Copenhagen received the trophy and final-day opponents Aalborg beat relegation courtesy of Tim Janssen’s goal for Esbjerg.
Copenhagen beat Aalborg 2-0 to finish 26 points ahead of second-placed Odense, but Janssen’s header for Esbjerg rendered Aalborg’s defeat immaterial in the fight for survival.
Aalborg finished third from bottom on 35 points, with Randers one place below them on 34 and Esbjerg bottom on 33.
Copenhagen’s city rivals Brondby secured third place ahead of FC Midtjylland thanks to a 2-0 win away to Sonderjyske.
FC Copenhagen and Odense will go into into next season’s Champions League, with Brondby and Midtjylland joining the Europa League at the qualifying stage.
Copenhagen’s Senegalese striker Dame N’Doye finished as the Superligaen’s top scorer with 25 goals.
The curtain fell on the career of FC Copenhagen winger Jesper Gronkjaer, who announced his impending retirement on Thursday.
The 33-year-old, who quit international football after the World Cup last year, signed off his professional career with a goal against Aalborg,
