Rain delays start of England test

CARDIFF, May 26 (Reuters) - The start of the first test between England and Sri Lanka was delayed on Thursday because of persistent rain.

Captains Andrew Strauss and Tillakaratne Dilshan were due to meet for the toss at 0930 GMT but morning showers meant the ground was still covered as the umpires inspected the conditions.
An England and Wales Cricket Board official said the umpires would inspect the ground conditions at 1010 GMT. The weather was expected to improve during the course of the day.
Sri Lanka were still waiting on the fitness of fast bowler Dilhara Fernando, though his chances of playing were rated doubtful on Wednesday because of a sore knee. Suranga Lakmal was expected to take his place.
This is the first test match for both teams since January, following England’s triumphant Ashes series win in Australia. Sri Lanka were beaten in the World Cup final in April.
Teams:
England (probable): Andrew Strauss, Alastair Cook, Jonathan Trott, Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell, Eoin Morgan, Matt Prior, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, James Anderson, Chris Tremlett.
