NEW YORK, May 9 (Reuters) - Oakland Athletics outfielder Josh Willingham has appealed after being fined and suspended for one game for making contact with an umpire, Major League Baseball said on Monday.
He bumped umpire Bill Miller after being ejected from Saturday's game against the Kansas City Royals for arguing after being called out on strikes.
Willingham, batting .225 but with five home runs and 17 RBI, was due to serve his suspension in Oakland's game against the Rangers in Texas on Monday before electing to appeal.
