Morelia advance to Mexican final after volatile victory

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Morelia reached the Mexican Clausura championship final with a 3-0 home win over Cruz Azul on Sunday, in a match marred by three dismissals as a result of fighting among the teams and benches.

A Morelia fan ran onto the pitch after the third goal, scored by Jaime Lozano in the 89th minute, and was attacked by Cruz Azul players, sparking a free-for-all brawl.
After several minutes of fighting had ended, the referee sent off visiting players Christian Gimenez and Isaac Romo and Morelia's Miguel Sabah before resuming the match to see out added time with Morelia going through 3-2 on aggregate.
Both teams' coaches were sent to the stands while Cruz Azul goalkeeper Jesus Corona was lucky not to be spotted by the referee head-butting a member of the Morelia coaching staff off the pitch which was shown in video replays.
Morelia's "Monarchs" will meet Pumas UNAM, who overcame Guadalajara 2-0 earlier on Sunday for a 3-1 aggregate victory in their semi-final tie, in the final over two legs next Thursday and Sunday.
Mexico striker Rafael Marquez Lugo stunned Cruz Azul's "Blue Machine" with two goals in the opening 10 minutes, a header followed by a deft lob over the advancing Corona, to inspire Morelia to their victory.
At the Olimpico in Mexico City, striker Javier Cortes put Pumas ahead two minutes before halftime with a free kick from outside the box.
Pumas' two Paraguayan players combined for the second goal 14 minutes from time when striker Dante Lopez tapped in from right back Dario Veron's diagonal ball into the box.
Guadalajara, Mexico's most popular club, had defender Mario de Luna sent off five minutes from the end for bringing down goal-bound Brazilian-born midfielder Leandro Augusto.
"It leaves a bad taste in the mouth," Guadalajara defender Miguel Angel Ponce said of the Chivas' defeat.
