Monaco Grand Prix to plumb new depths

LONDON, May 10 (Reuters) - This year's Monaco Formula One Grand Prix will plumb new depths with the chequered flag to be dropped at sea and recovered as part of a charity diving event on the Friday before the race.

Organisers said on Tuesday that the flag would be signed by all the racing drivers after leading tennis players Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic did so at the recent Monaco Open.
It will be submerged more than 60 metres in the Mediterranean principality's waters before being brought back to the surface by record-holding Monegasque free diver Pierre Frolla.
The flag will be auctioned off after the event, which will be watched by Prince Albert, in aid of the Monaco-based Peace and Sport organisation.
The 69th edition of the race, glamour showcase of the Formula One season, is on May 29.
