LONDON, May 24 (Reuters) - Wales' Millennium Stadium will be a venue for the 2015 World Cup hosted by England, the International Rugby Board said on Tuesday.
The IRB council said the 74,500 capacity stadium in Cardiff was "strategically important to the hosting of the tournament".
"The Millennium Stadium is one of the world's iconic sporting venues with a rich pedigree in hosting major sports events, including matches at Rugby World Cup 1999 and Rugby World Cup 2007," IRB chairman Bernard Lapasset said.
Wales supported England's bid to host the tournament against competition from Italy, Japan and South Africa.
