Finland tops Norway 4-1, gains hockey worlds semis

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia (AP)—Finland has advanced to the semifinals of the hockey world championships after beating Norway 4-1 on Jarkko Immonen’s two goals.

The Finns will next play the winner of Thursday’s other quarterfinal between Canada and Russia.

Finland’s first three goals all came on power plays. Norway has never beaten Finland at the worlds.

After the scoreless opening period, Ken Andre Olimb gave the underdog Norwegians the lead by scoring on a penalty shot 3:56 into the second.

Immonen started the comeback with a slap shot to tie it two minutes later. Tuomo Ruutu(notes) then put the Finns ahead for good. Immonen added his second with another slap shot and Jani Lajunen completed the scoring.
