TOKYO, May 30 (Reuters) - Former Major League Baseball pitcher Park Chan-ho has been dropped to the minor leagues by Japan’s Orix Buffaloes after being told to “stop fooling around” and get serious.
The 37-year-old South Korean, whose 124 Major League
Baseball wins is a record for Asian-born pitchers, has struggled since moving to Japan from the Pittsburgh Pirates last December.
A national treasure in Korea, Park was taken off Orix’s active team roster after a nightmare game against the Chunichi Dragons at the weekend, the Pacific League club said on Monday.
Having given up six runs in a little over three innings, Park, who burst onto the MLB scene with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1994, copped a stinging rebuke from Orix coaching staff.
“He needs to pull himself together,” pitching coach Osamu Fukuma told the Sankei Sports newspaper. “He has not come here to fool around. He needs to do a lot better.”
Park has won only one of seven starts for the Buffaloes with an earned run average of 4.29.
