NEW DELHI, May 24 (Reuters) - Former Australia opener David Boon will replace compatriot Alan Hurst on the International Cricket Council's (ICC) panel of match referees.
Boon, currently Cricket Tasmania's General Manager and also a national selector, would relinquish both those posts before joining the panel, the ICC said in a statement on Tuesday.
"I am excited with this appointment as it provides me with another opportunity to stay involved with this great sport," the 50-year-old who played in 107 test matches said in the statement.
"Having played first-class cricket for nearly two decades and having been involved in marketing, cricket administration and national selection matters, I think I bring a lot of experience to the group which includes some of the most respected names in the sport.
Hurst, who joined the panel in 2004, will retire after officiating in his 102nd one-day international between England and Sri Lanka in Manchester on July 9. (Reporting by Amlan Chakraborty in New Delhi
