Sharks score four second half tries to beat Hurricanes

The Sharks ran in four second half tries to record a 40-24 win over the Hurricanes in their Super rugby match at Kings Park on Saturday. With the match locked at 13 points apiece at halftime the home side scored 27 points in the second half to ease to their sixth win of the season and move to the top of the South African conference.
"We gave away too many balls in the first half, which is dangerous against a team with a back three as good as the Hurricanes. But we tightened things up in the second half," Sharks captain John Smit said in a televised interview.
New Zealand's Hurricanes suffered an early setback when lock James Broadhurst was sin-binned in the fourth minute after stamping on an opponent at a ruck.
Sharks flyhalf Patrick Lambie slotted the resulting penalty but the Hurricanes, playing with a stiff breeze at their backs, made light of their opponents' numerical advantage as a midfield break from centre Ma'a Nonu led to a try for fullback Cory Jane.
Hurricanes pivot Daniel Kirkpatrick succeeded with the conversion and two penalties as the visitors eased into a 13-3 lead after 21 minutes.
The home side fought their way back into a contest thanks to a marvellous team try after scrumhalf Charl McLeod tapped and ran a penalty deep in the Sharks' half.

The ball eventually found its way to Springbok skipper Smit, making his first start of the year at hooker after being used at prop for much of the season, who bulldozed his way over from close range.
Lambie, who had missed three of his first four kicks at goal, added the two points before succeeding with his second penalty.
The start of the second half brought a flurry of activity as replacement flank Faifili Levave scored directly from the kickoff for the Hurricanes before Sharks wing Lwazi Mvovo replied with a try of his own less than a minute later.
Kirkpatrick then kicked two penalties as the visitors took a 24-18 lead.
The Sharks were stung into action and they gained the bonus point for scoring four tries thanks to a score from inside centre Meyer Bosman and a second from Mvovo, who intercepted a loose pass on the halfway line before outstripping the defence.
Mvovo's five-pointer put the Sharks into the lead and they consolidated their position thanks to Lambie's third penalty before number eight Ryan Kankowski wrapped up the scoring with a try in the dying minutes of the match.
"We played some good rugby but mistakes let them in," Hurricanes captain Andrew Hore said. "We were short on defence at the rucks and they got the better of us out wide."
The Hurricanes have now lost six of their nine matches.
