Schalke set to offer Neuer new deal

Schalke are ready to offer keeper Manuel Neuer a lucrative new contract to persuade him to stay at the Bundesliga club rather than move to Bayern Munich."We will do everything to tie him to Schalke beyond his current contract," general manager Horst Heldt said Friday.

However Heldt denied a Bild report that the club would be offering 25-year-old Neuer a three-year deal from 2011 to 2014 worth 7 million euros (10 million dollars) a year, up from 2 million euros a year.

If confirmed the contract would make Neuer alongside Spanish star Raul the best-paid player in the club's history, but Heldt said "content and details" of the report were incorrect.

Neuer's contract with Schalke runs for another season, but Bayern have shown a strong interest in signing the Germany international this summer.

Schalke are now in a better position to offer the keeper a new deal after earning some 50 million euros from their advance into the semi-finals of the Champions League.
