Injured Liverpool captain Gerrard to miss rest of season

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will miss the rest of the Premier League season because of injury, the club confirmed on Friday. The 30-year-old midfielder underwent surgery on his groin last month and suffered another injury to that area of his body at the end of last week."We still don't know definitively what the problem is," Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish told a press conference. "So we will wait until we get a precise answer from the people he has been to see. But he will not be involved again this season.

"It's a blow to have anybody out, but it's more disappointing for the players than it is for us. We just have to get on with it.
"Without being disrespectful to the players who are injured, the most important ones are the ones who are fit because they're the ones who can be chosen."
Gerrard's absence will be a blow to Liverpool's hopes of securing Europa League football next season by overhauling Tottenham Hotspur in fifth place. Liverpool currently sit sixth in the Premier League, five points behind Tottenham.
