Bilbao pay the penalty against reserve-packed Real Madrid

Real Madrid moved to within five points of Spanish leaders Barcelona on Saturday with a comfortable 3-0 win away to fifth-placed Athletic Bilbao.Kaka, one of the many reserves fielded by Real coach Jose Mourinho, converted two penalties, and Cristiano Ronaldo came off the subs' bench to score the third goal.
The win left Real with 76 points from 31 games, five fewer than Barcelona, who were due to
receive bottom team Almeria later on Saturday.

Barca were planning to go into the April 16 league Clasico away to Real eight points ahead of their historic rivals.

Real took the lead in old San Mames in the 14th minute when Kaka made it 1-0 from the penalty spot after Bilbao keeper Gorka Iraaizoz had pulled down the rapid Angel Di Maria.

The Basques came close to equalizing at the end of the first half, but Di Maria won a second penalty for Real in the 53rd minute, when he was clumsily pulled down by Xabi Castillo.

Twenty minutes from time Ronaldo made it 3-0 with a powerful low drive, following a swift break engineered by Esteban Granero.

After the Barca-Almeria clash, Mallorca were due to receive Sevilla.

Sevilla are level on 45 points with Bilbao and will jump above them into fifth place if they manage to avoid defeat in Palma.
