Roma draw as Totti tops 200-goal record

Veteran striker Francesco Totti scored a second straight brace Sunday to help Roma draw 2-2 at Fiorentina.
The 34-year-old twice levelled in Florence a week after leading Roma to a 2-0 win in a city derby against Lazio, and now boasts 201 goals in the Italian Serie A - all of them scored donning the Giallorossi's jersey.
Romanian striker Adrian Mutu also showed a good form as he forced a first save from Roma's Brazil goalkeeper Alexander Doni with a firm shot, and on 21 minutes stormed on the left flank of the box to stun him with a drive under his legs.
The Purples kept up a fast pace and came close aga
in when Alberto Gilardino fired a high volley off a cross from Alberto Santana, but conceded a spot-kick equalizer on one of Roma's rare attacks in the first half.

A tackle from Gianluca Comotto on Norwegian John Riise cost Fiorentina a penalty that captain Totti converted on 27 minutes.

The in-form veteran set up Frenchman Jeremy Menez for a drive saved by Poland's Artur Boruc before the Purples took again the lead with Alessandro Gamberini on 34 minutes.

As Roma's defence dithered on a corner kick, the defender easily flicked home before Fiorentina came close again when Mutu sent a corner-kick header against the bar.

Doni's woodwork was shaken again after the break by a volley from Peruvian Juan Vargas, but Totti levelled again on 52 minutes with a drive from the right flank.

The race for the title took a bad turn for leaders AC Milan as they crashed 1-0 at Palermo on Saturday, offering chasers Inter Milan a chance to draw within two points when they welcome lowly Lecce later Sunday.

There will be eight games left when the two Milanese giants meet on April 2 for a mouthwatering city derby after a weekend of international games.

Also in contention are surprise third-place Napoli, trailing title holders Inter one point adrift when they close the weekend at home to Cagliari late Sunday.

On Saturday, Lazio edged lowly Cesena 1-0 to stay in contention for a berth in next season's Champions League.
