Farm hand Vettel ready to go in new F1 season

Sebastian Vettel cut a rather shy figure as a sheep shearer on Wednesday but intends to do better in his familiar role of Formula One driver on the weekend.
Vettel appeared awkward in his attempts to rid the sheep of its wool and later commanded a sheep dog at the Warrook Cattle Farm event.
But the F1 world champion Vettel said that he and his Red Bull team are well prepared and ready to go in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on Sunday in Melbourne.

"Skill comes with practice ... I will not be as shy as today, as I know what I am going to do," he said.
Vettel's skill in an F1 car is undisputed since he stole the 2010 world title from Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso and his Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber in the last race of the campaign.

A poor Ferrari pit strategy in that Abu Dhabi GP arguably played in his hands, and Vettel agrees with a vast majority of F1 experts and officials that the famed Italian team will be the biggest challenger.

"Ferrari will be very, very strong. Those who are close to Ferrari will be at the top ... I hope we will be there as well," said Vettel.

With Renault, Mercedes and McLaren and four former world champions - Alonso, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button - chasing the title holder, Vettel recently admitted it was "almost impossible" to determine a pecking order for the start of the season.

New tyres, the return of the power-boosting Kers system and moveable rear wings and to the uncertainty.

But Vettel, at age 23 the youngest champion in the sport, said he would try his best to keep the number one on his car for another year.

"Yes, I have the number one on my car. I said very often last year that everyone strives for it. Now I have it and I don't want to part with it. That is my aim for the year," Vettel said.

Vettel said that testing has gone well ahead of the season which starts two weeks later than planned due to the postponement of the March 13 Bahrain race.

Vettel used the additional time to renew his Red Bull contract until 2014 and now is raring to go again.

"It's nice to look back at last year and at what we achieved. But we're all looking forward now and focusing on the new car and season. It all starts from zero again; we're excited, we've had enough of testing now and we want to go racing again," he said in a Red Bull news release on Wednesday.
