British government refuses to mediate in BOA/LOCOG row

The British government will not get involved in the funding row between the British Olympic Association (BOA) and London 2012 organisers LOCOG, sports minister Hugh Robertson said on Tuesday.
BOA chairman Colin Moynihan met Robertson on Tuesday to ask if he could mediate in the dispute, which is currently before the court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
"The Government is not and cannot be a mediator in a dispute between two private companies and I reiterated that there was no additional Government money available to help solve the dispute," Robertson said in a statement.
"I have encouraged the BOA to resolve the matter as quickly as possible in order to allow everyone to get back to making preparations to ensure 2012 is a great success."
The two sides disagree about whether the BOA's share of any surplus from the Games should be distributed before or after taking into account the cost of staging the Paralympics.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has supported LOCOG's stance but BOA officials are adamant that they have a strong legal case based on agreements previously signed between the two parties.
