Spanish icon Raul Gonzalez will not leave Schalke 04 in summer over the departure of coach Felix Magath in a disappointing Bundesliga season for the club.
"I will stay until 2012. But it also depends on whether club wants that as well," Raul told Wednesday's edition of the Sport Bild weekly. "I didn't sign a contract with Felix Magath but with Schalke."
Magath was instrumental in luring Raul to Schalke ahead of the season on a two-year contract from Real Madrid. The 34-year-old has scored 11 goals in 27 top flight games for the Germans.
Schalke are in the German cup final and the Champions League quarter-finals, but they are stranded in 10th place in the Bundesliga. Magath had to go two weeks ago and has been replaced by Ralf Rangnick, for whom Raul is an important player.
"Raul is an extraordinary player. But all others must support him on the field," said Rangnick.
