Monte Carlo (dpa) - Germany will not put forward a joint bid from
Berlin and Hamburg for the Olympic Games despite the International
Olympic Committee (IOC) Monday approving a new bidding process.
Michael Vesper, general director of the German Olympic
sports association DOSB said that a joint bid of that nature was still "not possible" under IOC statutes.
"These reforms which have been approved today are not to be interpreted that a double bid is now possible," he said.
"This is about showing more flexibility and being able to move certain events elsewhere, for example those which need very expensive facilities."
A double bid from Hamburg and Berlin is therefore "not possible under IOC statutes," Vesper said.
The DOSB last week formally approved a 2024 Olympics bid with Berlin or Hamburg. It will decide on the winning city on March 21.
At the extraordinary session of the IOC in Monte Carlo Monday, the 94 voting members unanimously approved a revised bidding system which would allow cities hosting summer or winter games to hold events outside the host city or country.
