HARRISON, N.J. (AP) -- Major League Soccer executive Ali Curtis has been named sporting director of the New York Red Bulls.
The Red Bulls made the announcement on Tuesday, eight days after Andy Roxburgh announced he was leaving the club.
Curtis will be responsible for all soccer activities at the club, including player acquisition, scouting and oversight of the coaching staff.
Before joining the Red Bulls, Curtis spent seven seasons with the MLS, most recently as senior director of player relations and competition where his responsibilities included overseeing MLS club budgets, negotiating more than 200 player contracts per year, leading key areas of renegotiation of the current collective bargaining agreement and leading the MLS Player Development Committee.
The former Duke player spent four seasons in MLS.
