INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Troy Williams matched his career high with 22
points and Kevin ''Yogi'' Ferrell added 20 to help Indiana beat No. 23
Butler 82-73 on Saturday.
Coach Tom Crean earned his 300th
victory. Indiana (9-2) beat a ranked opponent for the 17th time since
2011-12, the most in the Big Ten.
Kellen Dunham led Butler (8-3) with 23 points. The Bulldogs lost their second straight to a power conference foe.
It
looked as if things may turn out different when Kameron Woods' dunk
gave Butler a 53-47 lead with 13:48 to play. But Ferrell scored 12 of
his points during a 14-6 run that gave Indiana a 61-59 lead. Williams
then scored four points in a 10-0 run that extended the Hoosiers' lead
to 76-65 with 3:08 to go.
Butler couldn't get closer than five the rest of the way.
Ferrell became the 48th member of the Hoosiers' 1,000-point club. He has
1,003, achieving the feat in his hometown and on the same playing court
where he won two state titles in high school.
For Butler, it was a rare loss in the rivalry. The Bulldogs had won four of the last five against Indiana.
They
had a chance to win it again after Dunham scored the final seven points
of the first half to get Butler into a 38-38 tie at halftime. The
Bulldogs continued their charge early in the second half, taking their
biggest lead of the game on Woods' dunk.
But Ferrell responded with a flurry.
He
scored on a lay-up, hit a 3-pointer and made two free throws to tie the
score at 57. Colin Hartman's putback broke the tie with 9:30 to play,
and then Ferrell went back to work. He made another layup, and James
Blackmon Jr.'s three-point play capped the 14-4 run that gave Indiana a
66-61 lead with 7:53 left.
After the Bulldogs cut it to 66-65, Nick Zeisloft answered with a 3 and Williams scored four quick points in the decisive run.

Butler:
The Bulldogs came into Saturday as the only unbeaten team in the first
