LONDON (AP) -- United States defender DeAndre Yedlin will join Tottenham in January, six months earlier than expected.
The London club said Monday it had reached an
agreement with the Seattle Sounders in August for Yedlin to join ahead of the next Premier League season, but now wants him earlier to allow him to adapt.
''DeAndre is a young player with great potential who has already achieved a lot in Major League Soccer,'' Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said. ''It is important for his development that he is given the time to adapt to his new surroundings both on and off the pitch.''
The 21-year-old right back became the first MLS home-grown player to appear at a World Cup in Brazil.
Yedlin, who has been an MLS all-star in each of his first two years in the league, has played 10 times for the United States and was recently named U.S. Soccer Young Male Athlete of the Year.
