* Unfancied American Dufner occupies top spot
* World number one Donald fades on final four holes
* Westwood closes in on first major title (Updates with leaders completing nine holes)

JOHNS CREEK, Georgia, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Little-known American Jason Dufner held the third-round lead at the PGA Championship on Saturday as the final four holes of the course again confounded some of the leading challengers.
The 34-year-old Dufner, who has never won on the PGA Tour, was at seven under par after nine holes, a stroke ahead of tour rookie American Brendan Steele who is playing in his first major.
Experienced American Jim Furyk and rookie Keegan Bradley were tied for third, two strokes behind Dufner.
British world number one Luke Donald had moved within a shot of the lead, getting to five under after 14 holes, but he bogeyed the 16th and then found water on the tricky last hole which he double-bogeyed to end the day with a 68.
"It was a very disappointing finish but there was a lot of great golf out there too," said the Englishman, who nonetheless remains in the frame for Sunday in pursuit of his first major title.
Donald's compatriot and world number two Lee Westwood was in a quintet of players four strokes off the pace.
Westwood was solid, recording birdies at the fifth and 10th but he will be well aware that he needs to survive the final four unscathed if he is to remain in a strong position for Sunday's final round.
